We bring sharpened skills to the courtroom.

We help a wide variety of clients and strive to meet their individual goals - often through favorable settlements.

Sugar Friedberg & Felsenthal LLP’s bankruptcy practice involves all areas of  insolvency work including representation of corporations and partnerships in restructurings, work-outs, and court reorganizations, commercial lessors, secured and unsecured creditors, and bond holders.

Our clients include both creditors and debtors. We have represented lessors in bankruptcies of their lessees such as Kmart and Crown Books. We have assisted financial institutions, such as LaSalle Bank NA, insurance companies, and special servicers for whom we have collected loans through litigation, liquidation, secured creditor sales, plans of reorganization, and loan restructuring. We have also represented financially troubled business debtors in solving their difficulties (depending on their goals) through reorganizations, out-of-court compositions, liquidations or assignments for the benefit of creditors. We have represented many companies, such as Kroger, Inc., in defense of preference and fraudulent conveyance actions, and work with entities in purchasing assets of distressed businesses.

Our approach is to work with our clients to understand their needs and desires, and then achieve them in a creative, practical, efficient, effective manner. We work closely, therefore, with our litigators and hand-in-hand with our transactional, banking and tax attorneys in developing coordinated and appropriate business solutions.

Bankruptcy always entails an effort to make the best of a bad situation. To that effort we bring not only technical skill and court-room savvy, not only sharpened skills as negotiators of favorable settlements, but financial acumen, common sense, and hard-nosed business judgment.

We value the trust our clients bestow on us.
